Raury continues to deliver the style we saw in Indigo Child, but still manages to throw in some new vibes. “He owes the game, they gave him weight / But he was weak, he has a week / Or he will be killed / And papa died, he used to trap / His son’s a man, but men don’t cry / Unless they’re trapped tears” Whether or not the song is based on true experiences, the song is still very powerful and shows us a different side of Raury. The song centers on the focus of life in the trap, however it is not known if this is where Raury actually grew up or is he is just spreading awareness of the troubles that reside there. The instrumentals are much darker, followed by a strong trap beat. The following tracks are all great, but Raury takes an interesting turn with the song ‘Trap Tears’. “At first they want to keep us separate but equal / But it’s not so we fight against the hatred and evil / Now they let us think we got it and they killin’ our people / Why does history repeat like a sequel? / Well that’s forbidden knowledge” Raury is really irritated by the state of the world right now, and even goes on to discuss what seems like uncertainty with God and anger towards corporate powers. Raury really bears it all and describes his frustrations on multiple topics, all of which he puts under the guise of “Forbidden Knowledge”. The track features an awesome bass & the title serves as a catchy hook. ‘Forbidden Knowledge‘ was released as a single earlier this month, and is definitely a standout on the album.
Every verse is sincere as he shows off his vocals, not to mention the powerful chorus, “Who can save the world, my friend?”This is all followed by a great rap ending, which Raury described as the summary of the album. However, Raury has definitely grown in the last year, with crisper production and better vocals.Īll We Need is the opening track to the album and after listening to the song, you can feel how passionate Raury is about his music. Under Columbia Records, the album is essentially a sequel to Indigo Child, a continuation of the story he was telling throughout the tape. Raury’s style can really be summed up by the tapes two leading singles, God’s Whisper and Cigarette Song.Īll We Need is Raury’s debut album. It was a unique mix of folk and hip hop, with gospel cuts and smooth guitar chords.
Indigo Child truly brought something refreshing to the music industry. Not only did it reach high positions of the charts, but he was also drafted to XXL’s 2015 Freshman Class and was featured on iTunes’s 2015 New Artist Spotlight. The tape was well received, and he gained a lot of recognition from the project. Indigo Child was the first glimpse we got of Raury’s music style, not only in singing and rapping, but with his guitar as well. Last year he released his debut mixtape entitled Indigo Child.
